I Dream of Smithville

I dream of Smithville, pleasant and sweet.
A little town, a tempting retreat.
Standing proud, being all it can be.
Standing on the road, of all you can see.

I dream of Smithville, Mel's dinner, tasty treat.
A little nook, place to go for something to eat.
There is the church just right up the street.
A place to rejoice beginning with a heartbeat.

I dream of Smithville, what it once was.
It's no longer there just because.
With it gone, where does that leave us?
Is it true, in the morning no school bus?

I dream of Smithville, a time of need.
They are asking how can this be.
It took them, why did it not take me.
There is a sapling, at least it was free.

I dream of Smithville, my eyes closed shut.
A roaring of thunder, to hear this I must.
The wrath came, in that I trust.
But why, why did it leave a cloud of dust?

I dream of Smithville, that vengeful day.
Let us all gather, let us pray.
May God's hand lead us not astray.
His love will guide, show the way.

I dream of Smithville, once again.
A place that will be all that it can.
It will only take the grace of man.
The dream is here, it never ran.

I dream of Smithville, let her not weep.
Pleasant memories, we all must keep.
Open your eyes, and you will see.
Once again, it will be all it can be.

(My prayers go out to those affected by what happened in Smithville, MS.)
